Today I’m continuing with the Blogging from A-Z Challenge! I’ll be posting every day except Sundays throughout April. This year, my readers voted for the theme “My Favourite Book Quotes”. So I’ve collected together the quotations that move me, inspire me and make me smile. I hope you enjoy them!
For letter H, I originally considered collecting my favourite Harry Potter quotes together, since HP has been my obsession since the age of 11. However, my feelings about the series are now tainted by J.K Rowling’s recent transphobic comments. Trans folk are who they say they are, and I stand with them. 🏳️⚧️
I’ve chosen to focus on one of my favourite young adult dystopian series, The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins, instead.
My Favourite Quotes from The Hunger Games

“You don’t forget the face of the person who was your last hope.”
“I am not pretty. I am not beautiful. I am as radiant as the sun.”
“Stupid people are dangerous.”
“I want to do something, right here, right now, to shame them, to make them accountable, to show the Capitol that whatever they do or force us to do there is a part of every tribute they can’t own. That Rue was more than a piece in their Games. And so am I.”
“Hope is the only thing stronger than fear.”
“Let them go, I tell myself. Say good-bye and forget them. I do my best, thinking of them one by one, releasing them like birds from the protective cages inside me, locking the doors against their return.”
Suzanne Collins, The Hunger Games

“The bird, the pin, the song, the berries, the watch, the cracker, the dress that burst into flames. I am the mockingjay. The one that survived despite the Capitol’s plans. The symbol of the rebellion.”
“I really can’t think about kissing when I’ve got a rebellion to incite.”
“It must be very fragile, if a handful of berries can bring it down.”
“Because I can count on my fingers the number of sunsets I have left, and I don’t want to miss any of them.”
“But I feel as if I did know Rue, and she’ll always be with me. Everything beautiful brings her to mind. I see her in the yellow flowers that grow in the Meadow by my house. I see her in the Mockingjays that sing in the trees. But most of all, I see her in my sister, Prim.”
Suzanne Collins, Catching Fire

“It takes ten times as long to put yourself back together as it does to fall apart.”
“Fire is catching! And if we burn, you burn with us!”
“I drag myself out of nightmares each morning and find there’s no relief in waking.”
“I no longer feel allegiance to these monsters called human beings, despise being one myself. I think that Peeta was onto something about us destroying one another and letting some decent species take over.”
“I have plenty of fire myself. What I need is the dandelion in the spring. The bright yellow that means rebirth instead of destruction. The promise that life can go on, no matter how bad our losses. That it can be good again.”
Suzanne Collins, Mockingjay

It’s one of my favourite series. I fancy revisiting it now.
I cried like crazy with Rue’s death scene. It was so powerful. Weekends In Maine
Same! It was heartbreaking and unexpected.
I haven’t read The Hunger Games trilogy since I was in uni and it’s a series that I really want to revisit. The quotes you chose reminded me just how good and impactful those books are.
My A-Z in April.
I want to re-read it soon too. I also need to read the prequel.
