This month I’m taking part in the Blogging from A-Z Challenge and will be posting every day except Sundays. My readers voted for the theme “Life, the Universe, and Everything According to My Five-Year-Old”. During bedtime discussions and colouring sessions, my daughter will finally be providing the answers to the philosophical problems and unsolved mysteries that have puzzled humanity’s greatest thinkers for centuries.
What’s the purpose of human life?
Me: Why do you think humans are here on this planet? What are we supposed to do with our lives?
L: Have fun!
Me: So the meaning of life is to have fun?
L: And do work.
Me: Anything else?
L: Sleep. And clean the planet earth.
Me: I like that. What should we all do with our lives?
L: Be good and care for animals.
Me: Some people think that everyone has a different purpose. Something that we were born to do. What do you think you’re here for?
L: Hmm. To be crazy! [bounces on the bed]
Me: Yes, that sounds about right. What’s Dad’s purpose?
L: To look after the garden.
Me: And mine?
L: To do work.

What do you think the meaning of life is? Do you believe each person has a unique purpose? Do you have a calling? Let me know in the comments!
I’ll stick with having fun and try to get some work done and keep the garden alive.
I really do love your daughter’s take on the world. And her hedgehog rescue drawing. Such fun. I DO think we all have a purpose in life, and the real job is finding the way to express it that brings us most joy.
It sounds like you got the worst out of that deal. Although, of course, if you love your work, then it’s perfect.
