New book release! (#IWSG Dec 2020)

Posted December 2, 2020 in Creative Writing / 3 Comments

Well, we’ve made it to December! Life is hectic for me right now, both directly and indirectly due to Covid-19. But despite the challenges, I’m very grateful to have my health, a job I enjoy and the support of my friends, family and colleagues. Stress and uncertainty are everywhere right now, but so are hope, love and kindness.

In case I don’t get a chance to blog again before Christmas, I wish you all a happy, safe and peaceful festive period.

Writing News

Fairytale Dragons, featuring my Rapunzel retelling “Forged in Flames” is out now! I was very excited to see my copy appear on my Kindle on Monday and can’t wait to read all the other dragon stories. It’s available to order here, or you can add it to Goodreads here.

Wise dragons, evil dragons, elemental dragons, oh my!

A new twist on fairytales with a fresh element: dragons.

Each fairytale has been reimagined with these beasts based on the author’s preference. These classic characters will never see this coming. Retellings include Swan Princess, Hansel and Gretel, Elves and the Shoemaker, Frog Prince, and many more.

Featuring stories from Ashley L. Hunt, R.L. Davennor, Anstice Brown, Denise Ruttan, Lydia Anne Stevens, Andrea J. Hargrove, S.O. Green, Kay Humble, Damien Mckeating, and Nathan Slemp.

When I’m Most Productive

This month’s optional question:

Are there months or times of the year that you are more productive with your writing than other months, and why?

I work in a school, so I generally have much more time to write during the school holidays. I find it harder to stick to a routine when I’m busy working, especially now I have my daughter.

The summer break is the best time for me as I have a nice long stretch off work in which to concentrate on longer projects. I also feel more energised and creative when the sun is shining. Unfortunately, in the winter I just want to hibernate and I’m not very disciplined at getting up on those cold, dark mornings to write!

The Insecure Writer's Support Group badge. This month's topic is writing rituals.

The Insecure Writer’s Support Group post on the first Wednesday of every month. We want to help writers of all stages to overcome their insecurities, and by offering encouragement we are creating a community of support.

This month’s awesome co-hosts are: Pat Garcia, Sylvia Ney, Liesbet,  Cathrina Constantine, and Natalie Aguirre!

What times of the year are you most productive? How are you doing lately? Do you have any writing news to share?

  1. That summer stretch is always so much fun!!!
Keeping a schedule when you have little ones around is next to impossible. I always found I was working in 5 – 10 minute sections! Good luck!!

  2. Congratulations on the story–that sounds like a cool collection!

I’ve always had trouble writing in summer, because that was when we were on holiday. When the kids were small, any writing I did happened when they were at school. Now, writing happens when I’m able.
