The Latest in my Life

I returned to work full time this week after almost six months at home. The summer holidays were pretty good despite the Covid situation. We got to spend some quality time together as a family without having to run our online classes. We went on a few carefully planned trips to local attractions such as quiet beaches, castles and animal parks, which was so good for all of us. It was wonderful to finally meet up with a few family members that we hadn’t seen since March, even though we weren’t able to get too close to them.

I was kind of sad about going back to work because I’ve loved getting to spend all day every day with my daughter and husband. Though the lockdown brought us plenty of worry and frustration, the time we had at home together was truly a gift and we made a lot of wonderful memories. But I enjoyed the first week back at school and I’m getting excited about my work again. There are lots of changes and things to remember, but it’s been great seeing my colleagues and students again. My daughter starts in reception class on Tuesday so hopefully we’ll all soon fall into a routine.

Writing

Fairytale Dragons from Dragon Soul Press, featuring my short story “Forged in Flames” is now available for preorder on Kindle at the link below:

Here’s the blurb:

“Wise dragons, evil dragons, elemental dragons, oh my! A new twist on fairytales with a fresh element: dragons. Each fairytale has been reimagined with these beasts based on the author’s preference. These classic characters will never see this coming. Retellings include Swan Princess, Hansel and Gretel, Elves and the Shoemaker, Frog Prince, and many more.

Featuring stories from Ashley L. Hunt, R.L. Davennor, Anstice Brown, Denise Ruttan, Lydia Anne Stevens, Andrea J. Hargrove, S.O. Green, Kay Humble, Damien Mckeating, and Nathan Slemp.”

Forged in Flames is a retelling of Rapunzel with an assertive heroine and, of course, a magnificent dragon.

Reading

I didn’t read as much as I wanted to over the summer. A lot of the time I just haven’t felt like it, or I’ve been up late playing games instead. But I did participate in Dewey’s 24 Hour Reverse Readathon last month. I’m currently reading The Hate U Give by Angie Thomas. It’s a hard-hitting, emotional read.

Entertainment

We’ve watched loads of films over the summer-mostly Disney and Marvel. We’ve made it to season 9 of Friends and we’re also re-watching Red Dwarf (up to season 5 or 6 so far). We just started watching series 2 of The Boys on Amazon Prime. It’s good but not for the faint-hearted.

I finally downloaded The Sims 4 and a couple of expansion packs and spent loads of time playing that.

The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimberly @ Caffeinated Reviewer.
