U is for Unusual Activities #AtoZChallenge

Posted April 24, 2020 in A-Z Challenge / 3 Comments

The Blogging from A-Z Challenge continues today. Every day throughout April (except Sundays) I’ll be posting a range of ideas and tips for keeping your family entertained at home. It will include arts and crafts, games, learning ideas and imaginative activities for all ages. I thought it would be particularly useful while we’re all self-isolating or socially distancing, though it can be used for any time of year.

Letter “U” is for Unusual Activities. “U” is always quite a tricky letter, and it took me a while to settle on a topic. I finally decided to compile a list of any unusual family activities I could think of that I haven’t already covered in previous posts. So if you’re bored and looking for something a little different to do with your spare time, try one of these fun activities.

  • Learn some magic tricks to impress your friends with. Vanishing Inc. Magic School has a free online course to teach you seven tricks and Kevin Quantum has lessons for kids on YouTube.
  • Get to know yourself better by taking a personality test. My favourites are the MBTI, enneagram test and the 5 Love Languages.
  • Have a go at family cosplay. You could dress up as your favourite book characters or try to recreate classic film scenes.
  • Harry Potter fans can try to complete this Hogwarts digital escape room or enrol in free online classes at Hogwarts is Here.
  • Find out what the Hubble telescope saw on your birthday. It has observed some truly beautiful cosmic phenomenon.
  • Try making a giant floor collage from household items, Art Attack style.
  • Challenge the grandparents to recreate your kid’s funny photos.
  • Ask the kids to write and film their own news and weather report.
  • Invent your own secret code and write messages to each other.
  • Take on the fun challenges set by Task Master for #hometasking.
  • True crime fans can have a go at solving these Unsolved Mysteries on Reddit.
