A is for Agenda of Activities #AtoZChallenge

It’s the first day of the Blogging from A-Z Challenge! Every day throughout April (except Sundays) I’ll be posting a range of ideas and tips for keeping your family entertained at home. It will include arts and crafts, games, learning ideas and imaginative activities for all ages. I thought it would be particularly useful while we’re all self-isolating or socially distancing, though it can be used for any time of year.

A

Letter “A” is for Agenda of Activities. I’ve seen a lot of social media posts recently with suggested timetables to follow while the schools are closed. Having a fixed schedule can be helpful if you like structure, but I personally find them difficult to put into practice. We are following a very basic routine where the only “fixed” events are mealtimes and bedtimes and we have lists of activities to use as inspiration the rest of the time.

One of the first things I did was to build what I call our Positivity Board. I wanted a kind of “hub” in the kitchen where I could put all our ideas in one place. I took an old piece of board and decorated it with wrapping paper, fairy lights, colourful magazine cut-outs and my daughter’s artwork. It makes me smile everytime I walk past it.

The first thing I added was a mind map with all the fun activities I would love to do with my family. It made me feel much more positive about the weeks of isolation to come knowing that there was plenty to look forward to.

I then decided to make a weekly planner sheet so that I could schedule in my important work meetings and regular slots for video calling family, as well as any weekly events I heard about from social media.

Next, I added a handy list of all the daily events that are happening online, such as Youtube fitness classes and celebrity storytime, so we can join in if we feel like it. I’ll be sharing links to these activities in future posts.

Finally, to keep us motivated, I made a daily checklist which includes basic things such as “get washed and dressed” and “get some fresh air”. I don’t beat myself up if I don’t achieve everything on the list, it’s merely there to remind me to get off the sofa once in a while!

Over to you!

Are you following a daily schedule or agenda of activities while at home or do you just go with the flo? Let me know in the comments!

  1. I love the positivity board idea! 🙂 I don’t have kids, but I made my own agenda and checklist in my bullet journal, to have a schedule while on lockdown. It helps a lot!
    Happy A to Z!

  2. Your positivity board is beautiful. It’s great that you’ve outlined so many options to do at home. I’ve filled up my to do list with lots of options too. I’m trying to be better about letting things go if I don’t get to them though. Now is the time to be kind to ourselves.Weekends In Maine

    • Thank you, Karen. Yes, we definitely have to be kind to ourselves right now and not put pressure on ourselves to get through lots of tasks. It’s enough to just “be”.

  3. What a fabulous idea – a positivity board (with fairy lights!). Can’t beat that! I don’t have kids, but by nature I’m more of a follow the flow and my heart rather than super organized and scheduled. Happy A-to-Z-ing!

    • Thanks, Deborah. I love organising things and I seem to have gone into overdrive lately-probably because it gives me the illusion of being in control!

  4. Neat idea. I really like the mind map and the fairy lights. Reminds me of mixed media art which makes it fun to look at.
I don’t have kids but I’m kind of wonder if a mind map would work for grocery-list-making/meal planning. (I dread going to the grocery store nowadays and I make a point to only go once a week.). Have a meal in the center and what branches off are the ingredients that may also be shared by other meals planned for that week. Hmm…

    • Thank you. Your grocery shop mind map actually sounds like a great idea. I always struggle to think of what I can make with the ingredients I have so that would really help I’m sure.
