The Latest in my Life

It was a pretty busy week at work with lots of events going on, including World Book Day. You can see my book themed outfit and my thoughts on the #readingispower theme here.

It was also my Grandad’s birthday on Thursday (he turned 91!) so I spent the evening with him and my mum and it was lovely to catch up with them both.

Friday marked 11 years since I began blogging! Although the name and url of the blog has changed a couple of times over the years, all the old posts from 2009 are still there if you’re brave enough to search through the archives and read my terrible poetry.

This weekend is, thankfully, a quiet one. I have been in my PJs all day, reading and playing with my four-year-old. Yesterday she wanted to learn about elephants so we watched a video about them, had a look at a few books and then she drew a picture.

She’s really curious and wants to learn everything about how the world works, so we’ve started doing some projects and investigations together. It’s such a fun stage!

What I’m Writing

I’ve been looking into a new writing opportunity this week that I’m pretty excited about but I don’t want to say too much at this stage in case it doesn’t work out, ha ha!

Book Talk

Yesterday I finished reading Good Omens by Terry Pratchett and Neil Gaiman, which was brilliant. I’d already seen the Amazon Prime TV show and enjoyed it, and now I see it’s very true to the book.

The characterisation is brilliant. The way the children speak and play is so realistic and actually made me nostalgic for my own childhood. I was surprised by how much I related to Adam.

The wit is right up my street and I was chuckling out loud at least once a page. The writing is so clever and observant; the kind that makes you wish you’d come up with it yourself.

It’s also thought-provoking and brings up lots of questions about the nature of good and evil, the meaning of life and death and so on. I love that sort of philosophical pondering.

The authors notes at the back were amusing and heartwarming too and gave me a little insight into Pratchett and Gaiman’s friendship. I have a few of Neil Gaiman’s books on my TBR shelf and now I’m even more excited to read them!

Entertainment

My husband treated me to a new PC Game, Planet Coaster, which is like Rollercoaster Tycoon but with much better graphics. I love that it has so many customisation options. You can make your own “blueprints” of shops and other buildings and then decorate them with all sorts of objects and scenery. I’m going to have a lot of fun designing parks around various themes, like pirates and space. I’m currently working on an Alice in Wonderland inspired one.

I listened to a few more Authentic Parenting podcasts this week:

  • How Do You Become More Self-Accepting?
  • What I Learned After Losing Everything
  • How to Stop Losing Your Sh*t with Your Kids
  • How Your Childhood Experiences Shape You with Karen Lock Kolp

You can find them all at the link above if you’re interested.

Over to you!

How was your week? What have you been reading or watching? Did you do anything for World Book Day?
