This week in my life
It’s been a while since I last did one of these, so I thought it was about time. It was my intention to post yesterday but I was enjoying a family birthday party and barbecue, and when I got home I didn’t have the energy.
I’ve been struggling with feeling exhausted lately. I wake up feeling tired and it just gets worse through the day. Even on my days off, little things like fetching the washing basket from upstairs are tiring me out. I think it’s down to a combination of stress (from work and my daughter being ill) and not looking after myself properly. But I plan on going to the GP soon to rule out a vitamin deficiency or anaemia, which I get now and again.
I’m off work this week, so it’s a good opportunity to kick start some lifestyle changes. I’m going to make a conscious effort to drink more water as I’ve been feeling a little dehydrated, and I’m also going to eat more fruit, veg and healthy protein.
I recently got a new bike and a kid’s trailer for my husband’s bike so we’re going to go on a few bike rides as a family. I’m trying to build up to cycling to and from work at least three times a week. So far, I’ve had jelly legs most of the time, but hopefully it’ll get easier the more I do it.
I’m also going to focus on my mental health, which I’ve been neglecting lately. I’ve downloaded a few apps on my phone so I can practise different breathing techniques, mindfulness and meditation. I’m hoping the combination of all these changes will get me feeling like myself again.
Lately on the blog

This is actually my first blog post in almost a month. In April, I successfully completed the A-Z Blogging challenge about ‘my writing life’. It was great fun and I’m proud that I managed to complete it during such a busy time. You can read all my posts from the challenge here.
I didn’t visit as many other blogs as I wanted to, so today I signed up for the the A-Z road trip so I can show the other participants some love over the next ten months.
I was also busy promoting Masquerade: Oddly Suited with our blog tour and the masquerade ball blog hop leading up to release day. It was such an exciting experience and I have made some wonderful friends in the other anthology authors.

Writing update
There are a few short story competition deadlines looming on the horizon so I’m working on ideas for my entries. At the moment, I’m focusing on a modern fairytale with mental health representation.
Soon, I’ll be writing my entry for June’s WEP challenge: Caged Bird, then turning my attention to the IWSG anthology competition, due in September. This year the genre is MG historical adventure/fantasy and the theme is “voyagers”. Middle grade is out of my comfort zone, but it will be a fun challenge.
What I’m reading
I’m currently dipping in and out of On Writing: A Memoir of the Craft by Stephen King. The writing advice is solid and it’s interesting to read about his childhood and the things that influenced his career.

Newsletter Launch

I’ve just finished setting up a monthly newsletter with mailchimp, called Daydreamer’s Digest. It will feature news about my writing, bonus content such as deleted scenes and flash fiction, bookish giveaways and mini interviews with other authors. If you’re interested, you can sign up for free here.
