The Blogging from A-Z Challenge continues today. Throughout April I’m posting about my life as a writer, including my inspirations, frustrations and celebrations.
I thought I’d share a brief update about where I’m at with some of my writing projects.
Science Fantasy Novel (WiP)
I’ve written around 30,000 words (about half) of a YA science fantasy novel that is best described as ‘Once Upon a Time meets Star Wars’. It doesn’t have a title yet, but I sometimes refer to it as ‘Glasswalker’ or ‘The Dream Maker’s Daughter’. It’s loosely based on fairytales and fantasy stories such as Alice in Wonderland, Peter Pan and the Wizard of Oz, but set in space and in the future.
I’ve come across some stumbling blocks with the plot, but I’m hoping to get the first draft completed by the end of the summer. I know that sounds slow to some, but I am juggling writing with a full time job and parenting. I figure that any progress is better than nothing!
After that, my plan is to write the sequel for this year’s NaNoWriMo in November, then return to editing book 1 in December/January. I have roughly planned out four books for this series.
As I mentioned the other day, I’ve been enjoying writing short stories lately.
I have two that are close to completion and will need editing soon-one is a dystopian retelling of A Midsummer Night’s Dream and the other is a story about deities from Lithuanian mythology.
When I’ve completed those, I’ll work on my other ideas and perhaps submit some more stories to contests later in the year. I have tentative plans for compiling my own anthology in the future.
The authors of Masquerade: Oddly Suited will be ‘unmasking’ their characters at the end of the Masquerade Ball Blog Hop on Tuesday 30th April, which is also release day!
Don’t forget to visit all the blogs in the hop to discover 10 exclusive bonus scenes accompanied by beautiful artwork created by Elizabeth Mueller. Can you guess which teaser belongs to which author? Find out on the 30th!
