E is for Energy and Excitement #AtoZChallenge

The Blogging from A-Z Challenge continues today. Throughout April I’m posting about my life as a writer, including my inspirations, frustrations and celebrations.

Energy

I find that writing takes a lot of energy. Not only because I’m concentrating, but also because I end up feeling the roller-coaster of emotions that my characters go through. Emotional scenes can be exhausting to write.

Daily life also takes a lot of energy. Everyone is rushing around at work or after their kids. I don’t know many people who get the recommended amount of sleep, because we all trying to squeeze as much as possible into our day. As a case in point, here I am at 10:55 pm trying to write today’s blog post after a tiring day at work followed by a party.

Tonight, I’m pushing through to get this finished because I have the weekend ahead of me to relax and I know that I can cope with it. But there’s nothing wrong with changing plans, putting in a little less effort or simply taking a break from time to time when you need to recharge your batteries.

Excitement

Today was the last day of term. I am so excited to have a couple of weeks off work to spend time with my family and get some more writing projects completed. I’ve seen a few themed story competitions that I’m interested in entering so I’ll be working on those over the break.

I had a very exciting delivery to my workplace earlier today. It was a box of books. Not just any books, but the paperbacks I ordered of Masquerade: Oddly Suited, the YA romance anthology that my story “Sea of Sorrows” is featured in. I can’t wait to read all the other stories and I’m really looking forward to release day on 30th April!

Before you go…

Writers-does writing take much of your energy?

  1. Creating takes a lot out of me. That’s why I (try!) to unplug completely over weekends to recharge. Reading something well-written also recharges the batteries 🙂

  2. I find writing energy-depleting at every stage from creating an idea to just commenting. I want blame the chronic disease that saps my energy, but it may be both.
