2019 Reading List & Challenges

Posted January 6, 2019 in Reading Challenges / 14 Comments

I’m so addicted to reading challenges, even though I don’t always complete them. I decided to keep a list of all the challenges I’ve signed up for this year in one post, for easier tracking.

The books I plan to read to complete all these challenges can be found on my Goodreads 2019 TBR list.

Beat the Backlist

I have a huge TBR pile, so this challenge is perfect for me. Any book published in 2018 or earlier (any genre, format, length, etc.) counts towards this challenge, and you can set your own goal for how many you would like to complete. I’m aiming for any 20 from my 2019 TBR. If you want to join in, you can sign up here.

A Year in Anthologies

I’m excited to join this challenge because I love anthologies and have quite a few on my TBR list. You can read the rules for the challenge and sign up here. I’m aiming to read 5 anthologies this year.

Anthologies read so far:

Outdo Yourself Reading Challenge

The aim of this challenge is to read more books in 2019 than you did in 2018. I only read 16 books last year, so I think this one is doable. My goal is to achieve the ‘Out of Breath’ level (6-10 more books). You can find out more and sign-up here.

Progress: 0 more than last year

The Official 2019 TBR Pile Challenge

I love this reading challenge and I’ve done it for several years now. The goal is to read 12 books that have been on your TBR list for at least a year. Read the rules and sign-up here.

Books read so far:

SpaceTime Reading Challenge

This reading challenge is about reading and reviewing any books from the science-fiction or time travel genres (including sub-genres). There are 4 challenge levels and I’m aiming for ‘Interstellar Explorer’ (10 books). Information and sign-up can be found here.

Books read so far:

2019 Review Writing Challenge

For this reading challenge, you set your own goal for how many reviews you would like to write this year and then get them written and posted. I’m aiming to write 24 book reviews this year, which I think is achievable.

Books reviewed so far:

Book Blog Discussion Challenge

I’d love to feature more discussion posts on my blog this year, so I’m hoping this challenge will motivate me. I’m aiming for the ‘Creative Conversationalist’ level (11-20 discussion posts). I will be happy if I can achieve 12. The challenge is hosted by Nicole @ Feed Your Fiction Addiction and Shannon @ It Starts at Midnight and you can sign-up here.

  1. Hi Anstice,
You are ambitious! 🙂 Good luck with your challenges! I wish you a successful and joyful New Year! 🙂 I have been inspired, and for the first time, I have joined 4 book challenges this year focusing on cozy mysteries. Happy Reading!
    Best,
Christina/The Blog for Teachers, Readers, & Life!

  2. Thanks for joining the SpaceTime Reading Challenge, Tizzy! I think we’re both aiming for Interstellar Explorer, so it’ll be interesting to see each others’ choices.

  3. Ooh good luck with the challenges! I like the sound of the anthology one- I’m hoping to read more anthologies in 2019.

And the Space Time challenge sounds awesome too- I love time travel stories!

    • I really love the variety of anthologies and they are easy for me to deep in and out of when I don’t have much time. Time travel stories are awesome, I definitely need to read more of those.

    • Yeah, I’m usually over-ambitious when it comes to these challenges, but I figure that it’s a ‘win’ if it encourages me to read or blog more than I would have done, even if I don’t quite make my target.

  4. I so understand the huge TBR. I trying to declutter my life and became brutal last year by starting The Moody Reader challenge in hopes of cutting my list down. It helped a lot and I’m doing it again this year to cut my TBR further. You have some interesting challenges this year, I like the discussion one. ❤️❤️
