This week in my life

Last week, we went on holiday to the seaside town of Great Yarmouth (on the East coast of England) with our friends and their two children. We stayed in a caravan on one of those Haven Holiday parks that come with a swimming pool and lots of family entertainment included. The weather was pretty good for October so we got to play on the beach, take the kids around the fair and visit an animal park. It was nice to spend quality time with our friends and we enjoyed playing board games and drinking wine when the kids finally went to sleep!

My husband went back to work on Monday (his birthday, bless him) but I had an extra week off. I mostly spent it playing with my daughter and watching Mary Poppins over and over again. But whenever she was at nursery or asleep I was busy writing and editing (more on that later).

We didn’t go out for Halloween this year, but my daughter dressed up and we just danced around the living room to ‘The Monster Mash’ and ‘The Addams Family’. I was pretty pleased with how my pumpkin turned out this year.

On Friday, I took my daughter to visit the Remembrance Day memorial display in our local church, which was really beautiful and moving. Then we went window-shopping and treated ourselves to some cake. I really loved having a little trip out, just the two of us.

We enjoyed watching some fireworks at our next door neighbour’s house last night before rushing off to do some bowling for our friend’s 30th birthday. We’re going out later tonight again for a meal to celebrate my husband’s birthday, so it’s been quite a busy weekend.

This week on the blog

I kind of abandoned my blog this week in order to focus on my writing and time with my daughter so nothing new I’m afraid! Although I have been sorting out some collaborations, spotlights and book reviews that are coming soon.

Writing update

I worked really hard on finishing and editing my short story this week, staying up until 1 or 2 am most nights. I finally submitted it to the IWSG annual anthology competition yesterday morning. It’s the first writing competition I’ve entered in four years so I’m really proud of myself for giving it a go.

I had hoped to do NaNoWriMo this month but honestly, I feel like I need a break. I’ve been putting a lot of pressure on myself lately and not really looking after myself in terms of exercise, healthy diet, relaxation and so on. So I’m going to focus on my health for the next couple of months and come back to my writing goals again in the New Year.

What I’m reading

Last week I read My Sister and Other Liars by Ruth Dugdall. The psychology of the characters was really interesting but I did guess the ending quite early on. My full review will be coming soon.
