Today I’m taking part in the Book Blogger Hop, a weekly hop hosted by Billy B at Ramblings of a Coffee Addicted Writer (originally created by Jennifer at  Crazy-For-Books). You can see the hop schedule here.

“Each week the hop will start on a Friday and end on Thursday. There will be a weekly prompt featuring a book related question. The hop’s purpose is to give bloggers a chance to follow other blogs, learn about new books, befriend other bloggers, and receive new followers to your own blog.”

This week’s question:

Can you say this about yourself? Nothing makes me happier than sitting down with a good book.

~submitted by Elizabeth @ Silver’s Reviews

This is a good question! I think maybe in the past I could say that about myself, but now I’m at a different stage in life I have slightly different priorities. Spending quality time with my family and friends probably makes me happiest now. I also really enjoy writing and being creative-it gives me a big sense of accomplishment.

Reading is not necessarily something that gives me a huge feel-good boost or a rush of endorphins, especially if I’m reading something sad! I associate it more with a cosy feeling of peace and contentment, like pulling on a comfy jumper or snuggling up under a blanket with a hot chocolate.

Curling up with a book at the end of the day is still something that I really look forward to and couldn’t live happily without. My reading time is precious as I think of it not only as entertainment but as a form of self-care. If for any reason I don’t have time to read for a while, I notice that I get irritable and miserable pretty quickly. Escaping into fiction and using my imagination are definitely vital to my mental well-being.

What about you?

Does anything make you happier than reading?

  1. I like that you call it entertainment AND self-care. I definitely see reading that way. I wouldn’t say it makes me the MOST happy, because I do like doing other things and being with friends and family but it’s a top one for sure.
