Book Blogger Hop at www.curiousdaydreams.comToday I’m taking part in the Book Blogger Hop, a weekly hop hosted by Billy B at Ramblings of a Coffee Addicted Writer (originally created by Jennifer at  Crazy-For-Books). You can see the hop schedule here.

“Each week the hop will start on a Friday and end on Thursday. There will be a weekly prompt featuring a book related question. The hop’s purpose is to give bloggers a chance to follow other blogs, learn about new books, befriend other bloggers, and receive new followers to your own blog.”

This week’s question:

If you were stranded on a deserted island, which ONE book could you not live without?

(submitted by Megan @ Ginger Mom & The Kindle Quest)

This is a tough one! I’ve talked before about how I find it impossible to choose a favourite book, so I’ll have to approach this logically rather than emotionally.

If I’m stuck on a desert island I’m going to need a book that is huge enough to keep me going. It also needs to have an uplifting message about overcoming adversity in order to keep my spirits up. Since I might be isolated for a long time, good characters are going to be important. Fantasy would be perfect, as it would allow me to escape from my difficult reality.

The first thing I thought of was one of the later Harry Potter books, which I absolutely adore. But then I realised that books 4-7 are progressively dark and perhaps reading about my favourite characters dying would not be best for my psychological state.

So, I think the best book to have with me would be The Chronicles of Narnia. The paperback edition is 767 pages and includes 7 different books so it would keep me entertained for a while. There’s a definite ‘good triumphs over evil’ theme that would be quite comforting I think, even though I’m not religious. Aslan would be a great character to have as an imaginary friend during my struggle for survival when I would need all the wisdom and courage I could muster.

What about you? What ONE book could you not live without?
