It’s time for another We are the World Blogfest. Sometimes all the bad news in the media can get us down, but the WATWB aims to raise our spirits by introducing us to positive, heartwarming news stories from all over the world. Luckily there are still plenty of good things going on in the world to restore our faith in humanity.
“We Are the World Blogfest” seeks to promote positive news. There are many an oasis of love and light out there, stories that show compassion and the resilience of the human spirit. Sharing these stories increases our awareness of hope in our increasingly dark world.
The wonderful co-hosts are: Belinda Witzenhausen, Emerald Barnes, Eric Lahti, Inderpreet Uppal, Lynn Hallbrooks, Mary Giese, Michelle Wallace, Peter Nena, Roshan Radhakrishnan, Simon Falk, Susan Scott, Sylvia McGrath, Sylvia Stein, Andrea Michaels, Peter Nena, Dan Antion, Shilpa Garg.

The story I’m sharing this time is a video I saw on Facebook last month during the World Cup. It’s about a Columbian football fan called Cesar Daza who helped his deaf and blind friend Jose Richard Gallego experience football matches by using sign language and hand gestures. Holding his friend’s hands, he guides them across a board representing a football pitch and shows him where the players are and who has the ball. It’s incredible to watch and so emotional!
I love this video because you often hear about the drunken and disorderly behaviour of football fans, but this story shows how the beautiful game can bring people together. I can’t imagine what it must be like to be both deaf and blind. The support of his friend must mean the world to him.
You can read more about this story at the Metro website.
Before you go…
Have you heard of any other positive stories related to football?
Wow. This is absolutely beautiful and it makes me want to not give up on life and the world. Thanks for making my evening. I also love this column, what a beautiful idea. I’ll have to drop by more often on Fridays 🙂
I’m glad you enjoyed it so much. I really love this blogfest, it always helps me to focus on the positive things going on and remember that there are some amazing people like this out there. It’s only once a month unfortunately-on the last Friday.
What a heart-warming share Tizzy – this really is a brilliant #WATWB story.
Thanks Deborah, glad you enjoyed it.
