Last year I read the YA science fiction novel Fate of the Stars by Arwen Paris (review here) and today I’m revealing the cover of the sequel, Rival, coming out in July 2018.

Arwen Paris is the author of young adult fiction. Her debut YA Sci-fi Urban Fantasy novel FATE OF THE STARS was released September 1, 2017. The action-packed pages of her novels are filled with characters that are forced to face fears they never expected.

And finally, here is the cover….
I’m loving the ominous vibes that this cover is giving off! The creepy abandoned buildings, the cracked earth and the flock of birds in the sky give us a feel for this post-apocalyptic setting. I like the way our heroine’s silhouette is seen striding towards the hope of light in the distance, despite those terrifying eyes looming over her.
I also think it goes really well with the cover for Fate of the Stars:
The font is the same and I like how they have gone with the same theme of eyes ‘watching over’ earth, except Rivallooks much more sinister and less hopeful. It’s almost the opposite of the first cover.

I’m liking the intense yellow of the cover! And from the sound of the synopsis there is a lot going to go down and going on in it. It sounds like action, political play and a lot at stake all at once! I think I’d have to read some reviews before I decided if it was right or not for me.
The first one was pretty good so I’m hoping this one will be now that the world and characters are already established. Have you ever read The Host by Stephanie Meyer? The first one kind of gave me those vibes.
Sounds interesting, and I love the use of the silhouette and the colors and the font! And it definitely does have an ominious post-apoc feel. That’s cool they’ve kept that eyes watching over theme too!
Yeah, I prefer the first cover overall but I think this one fits the theme of the book very well.
