Last night we went to a 1940s dance at Lincolnshire Aviation Heritage Centre. It’s the largest bomber command museum in England and the only place in the country you can see a Lancaster Bomber on an original wartime airfield.
We’ve been to the dance a few times before and always enjoy it. There is a live big band and everyone dresses up and brings a picnic. I always love to see people jiving and swinging across the dance floor in their vintage dresses and military uniforms.
We went with my mum, grandad, aunt, uncle, cousin and his girlfriend. It was so nice to spend some quality time together. My grandad loves remembering the past and he’s a big fan of live music. This year was the first time we took our 2-year-old daughter, and she loved it. She kept running onto the dance floor to join in and lasted all the way to midnight.
Part of the fun of this occasion is dressing up, so I thought I’d share a little about my outfit, hair and makeup.
My dress is the Savannah Navy Horse-Print Tea Dress from Lindybop. I wore it with some black high-heeled brogues that my sister passed on to me and some sheer black tights with a seam that I got from Amazon.
I decided to put my hair in an up-do. I plaited two sections either side of my parting and clipped them together at the back of my head. Then I used the Scünci Heidi Roll tool to roll the rest of my hair up and clip into place underneath where the plaits joined. I am absolutely hopeless at doing my own hair but this tool made it really easy and Scünci have a really helpful video that shows how to achieve this look. Mine wasn’t as neat as I would have liked, but it was pretty good for me. I finished it off with a red bow.
I kept my makeup quite simple and just added red lipstick (Barry M lip paint in “pillar box red”) and matching nail polish (Rimmel 60 Seconds Super Shine Nail Polish in double-decker red).
The only piece of jewellery that I wore was a vintage ring that used to belong to my Nanny (my maternal grandmother). She gave it to me for my 18th birthday and I’ve always treasured it but I don’t have many occasions to wear it. This was the perfect event!

I’m afraid that once we got there we spent most of our time eating or dancing and forgot to take pictures! The few I did get were from a distance and blurry like this one 🙁
