A-Z Challenge: A is for Anger

Posted April 1, 2011 in A-Z Challenge / 6 Comments

Today is the start of the A-Z Blogging Challenge hosted by some of my very favourite bloggers. The idea is to post something on your blog every day throughout April except for Sundays which gives you 26 blog posts in total-one for each letter of the alphabet. The blogs can be centered around any theme and any medium. This year there are an amazing 885 entries! Many of these sensible people will have already written and scheduled their blog posts in advance. But if you’ve followed my blog for any length of time you will know that organisation is a challenge for me and ‘sensible’ is not often a word associated with me. All I’ve done is pick a theme and a topic for each day. But I haven’t written anything yet. Well, except what I’m writing now, obviously! And might I add that I am writing this first blog post in a singular 30 minute free window of time where I’m not busy doing something else.

Anyway, I’ve decided to do an A-Z of human emotions, feelings and mental states. I hope to post a mixture of poetry, stories, quotes, tips, observations, lists, book recommendations, interviews, traditional art, digital art and photography. I hope you’ll stay with me for the ride.

Today’s topic is Anger. I haven’t had much time to work on this, but here is a quick poem that I mackled together on my lunch break.

Outburst

She drops the bomb and leaves me reeling,
Body numb and lacking feeling,
Until the dust clears from the air
And I percieve the truth laid bare.
Beneath the surface something bubbles
She can sense that there’ll be trouble.
My throat is dry, my heart is pounding
In my head a siren’s sounding.

How dare she treat me like a child?
I start to shake, my eyes grow wild,
A crimson filter clouds my sight
I try to calm with all my might.
But molten lava floods my veins
Causing white hot scalding pains,
My fists are clenched, I grind my teeth
Struggling to control the rage beneath.

But like champagne it bubbles over,
I’m on the verge of supernova,
Shouting, swearing, thrashing wildly
While she stands there smiling mildly.
 As my violent anger blazes
She is calm and nothing fazes,
I kick and scream and stamp about,
She won’t fight back or even shout.

Although my rage is hot as mustard,
She is barely even flustered
And that is what annoys the most-
The way she likes to watch me roast.
I wish I could control myself,
These outbursts aren’t good for my health
But it’s not easy to be cool
When someone makes you feel a fool.

Hope you enjoyed that. Please come back tomorrow for a blog post related to an emotion, feeling or mental state beginning with B!

  1. For being written so quickly, it's pretty good though some of your lines are off because you forced them to rhyme.
